Employee Training
As our chairman emeritus, Murray Bawden, once said, “Put people before profit and profit will take care of itself.” At Howard S. Wright, we recognize that employee training is a key component in fostering, maintaining and guiding our culture.
A Culture of Learning
Our commitment to employee training and development runs deep and is fully integrated with our business philosophy. Teaching a common technical knowledge base and the principles of servant leadership ensure consistently high quality projects and lasting relationships.
Rock Springs Training Facility
We own and operate our Rock Springs training facility just outside of Bend, Oregon, on 80 beautiful acres of sprawling parklike grounds. Directly adjacent are 1,500 acres of forested BLM land, available for exploration or extensive hiking, horse and mountain biking trails. Rock Springs features 35 private sleeping rooms in seven cabins, an open-beam lodge for dining and gathering, and the two-story Bawden Center for Peak Performance named after our chairman emeritus. Our training facility grounds also feature two ponds, tennis courts, a basketball court, swimming pool, in-ground spa and outdoor fireplaces. Rock Springs is an ideal setting for learning, team building and leadership training.
Training
We believe that consistent delivery of high quality services and high quality projects requires continuous improvement and learning. This is achieved through two structured, ongoing training curriculums. The first curriculum is organized and administered monthly, in each regional office, by the local senior management. The second curriculum is administered by a corporate trainer at the Rock Springs facility. Employees actively participate in both programs throughout the year. The curriculum at Rock Springs for 2010 included the following subject matter:
- BIM
- Safety
- QA/QC
- Project Monthly Reports
- Estimating
- Scheduling
- Presentation Skills
- EEO/Diversity
- Servant Leadership
