National Women In Construction Week

The Daily Journal of Commerce of Oregon featured Howard S. Wright’s Project Manager, Lauren Holmes, in the “Portland-Area Women Find Success in Construction” article during the national Women in Construction Week. The story spotlighted four local women who have succeeded and made a positive impact in the construction industry.  In 2010, Holmes was named Woman in Construction of the Year for the Northwest region by the National Association of Women in Construction. She has been employed by Howard S. Wright as a Project Manager for the last six years.

Edith Green Wendell Wyatt Is Officially “Glassed-In”

Howard S. Wright hosted an official “glassing-in” ceremony for the Edith Green Wendell Wyatt Federal Building Modernization project. A presentation lunch was provided for the more than 250 tradespeople, management teams, and special guests celebrating the major construction milestone of enclosing the building. The focus of the event was to recognize and thank the trades for their safe and efficient work to achieve this milestone. To date, more than 1.3 million pounds of glass, enough to cover three football fields, and 50,000 linear feet of aluminum have been installed – five tons more aluminum than in a Boeing 747.

Scottsdale’s Soleri Bridge & Plaza Highly Celebrated

Since the dedication of the Soleri Bridge and Plaza, in Scottsdale, AZ, the project has been widely celebrated throughout the community. Vancouver Community Library Wins Award of Merit

The Vancouver Community Library in Vancouver, WA, received the “Award of Merit: Cultural” from ENRCalifornia’s Best Project 2011 Awards. The 83,000 sf state-of-the-art community library is now hailed as a regional destination and downtown Vancouver’s sparkling gem. Playing a central role in the community, the new library is more than double the size, tripling the amount of book space, reading areas, and meeting/presentation space.

Howard S. Wright Completes Info Center At Milepost 31

Howard S. Wright recently completed the interior construction of the 2,500 sf public information center, Milepost 31, for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). Located in Pioneer Square, this center will educate the public on the challenging technical work happening underground for the Alaskan Way Viaduct deep bore tunnel replacement.

Trade Day at Edith Green Wendell Wyatt

Howard S. Wright, along with the U.S. General Services Administration and SERA Architects, came together on November 18th, 2011 to host the 2011 Trade Day. Located at the Edith Green Wendell Wyatt Federal Building Modernization project, the event provided opportunity for local youth to learn about the building trades as well as green building technology. Attendees included 109 participants from pre-apprentice training programs such as: Portland Youth Builders, the Urban League, Portland Community College Evening Trades Apprentice Program, Oregon Tradeswomen, Constructing Hope, and ACE Academy students from Benson High School.

Grand Hyatt Union Square Receives Award

Howard S. Wright was recently honored with a Commercial Interior Contractors Association (CICA) Award for the Grand Hyatt Union Square Meeting Space Renovation. The project won first place for the Best Interior Renovation in the hospitality, restaurant, and retail category. The Meeting Space Renovation included a complete ceiling replacement throughout, new finishes to walls and floors, custom millwork and glass assemblies, electrical and life safety upgrades, replacement of four escalators, and installation of a new sophisticated LED lighting system. Fairmont Princess Groundbreaking

On September 13, 2011, Howard S. Wright participated in a groundbreaking ceremony at the Scottsdale Fairmont Princess. The project consists of a $20M conference center that will add almost 60,000 sf of meeting and ballroom space when it is completed in October of 2012. The new conference center, designed by Kollin Altomare Architects of Long Beach, CA, will be built adjacent to the existing ballroom west of the resort’s main entrance.
