Enterprise Data Center EDC1
This design-build/teaming project was delivered to the Owner one month ahead of a challenging six-month schedule. The existing facility is a remnant of the collocation area. This 99,000 sf facility, with 45,000 sf of raised floor and a nine-acre site, has been reconfigured to bring it up to a level 3+ EDC (enterprise data center) for a major Seattle based financial institution.
Our design-build team completely revised the electrical single line to allow for 2N redundancy at the rack/equipment level, N+1 at the distribution, UPS and generator levels. The mechanical system redundancy was reworked to align with the electrical. A completely new integrated control and information system allows the Owner to observe all system functions from one system. Site hardening and general repairs and maintenance were also incorporated into this fast-track project.
Our design programming was complete in three weeks, with construction activities commencing just 2 weeks from the authorization to proceed. We incorporated the “just in time” design concept to keep construction activities going while allowing the Owner time to make educated and accurate decisions. Our ability to mobilize to a site “outside” our normal area of influence provided the Owner confidence that they received the quality and expertise they are accustomed to receiving from us locally.
