Kaiser Sunnyside Emergency Department Expansion
The Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center Emergency Department Expansion was completed in two phases to work around the fully occupational medical center.
The first phase involved the demolition of 9,000 sf of clinical space that was sandwiched above and below operating surgical suites. A temporary triage and waiting area was constructed for continued facility operations during the renovation. Twelve new treatment rooms and support areas were completed in five months. All new plumbing, HVAC, medical gasses, overhead light supports, headwalls, electrical panels and branch circuiting were installed to serve this space.
The second phase involved new construction of a 28,000 sf, single-story steel frame, brick and metal panel veneer addition to the Emergency Department. This space contains 24 additional treatment rooms, an imaging room, psychiatric holding rooms, entry and waiting areas, and triage and support areas. A temporary ambulatory entry tunnel was constructed to allow for the passage of the patient and staff through the construction zone.
