Nike Child Development Center

In the past 10 years, HSW has completed over 200 projects on this world headquarter campus. The Nike C. Vivian Stringer Child Development Center is the largest childcare facility on the West Coast and the first in the world to achieve LEED Platinum certification. This 35,000 sf, wood-frame building received official certification by the USGBC in January 2010. A few of the innovative strategies implemented include:

• Alternative wall insulation materials made of a natural cotton fiber that contains 85% post-industrial recycled materials
• All imported fill for the project was from recycled concrete rubble obtained from a local landfill, effectively reducing the landfill by approximately 5,300 cubic yards
• All stormwater was collected and treated on-site for slow release into an architectural wetland bioswale
• The mechanical units utilize energy recovery wheel technology, which captures excess waste heat from the exhaust that is reused to increase the efficiency of the units
• Solar panels were adhered to 75% of the roof membrane, which provide 13% of the total power to the building
