Pioneer Place
Howard S. Wright worked with The Rouse Company for over 10 years to realize Pioneer Place, a four block, mixed-use development located in downtown Portland.
The first phase of the development was the construction of an ambitious 242,000 sf retail pavilion which houses 90 upscale retail tenants and restaurants. The pavilion features a skylight enclosed glass atrium that lets natural light float through all four levels. The pavilion is connected by a sky bridge to a 58,000 sf Saks Fifth Avenue department store, a 329,000 sf high-rise office tower and a 600-space two-level garage—all built by Howard S. Wright. The buildings are structural steel frame with concrete on metal floor decks. Scheduling of the concrete columns and slabs was phased to accommodate the adjacent MAX light rail system. With the success of this project, The Rouse Company asked Howard S. Wright to build an additional mall block next to Pioneer Place that we completed in 2000.
