REI Portland

Inside The Edge, an 11-story mixed-use building built by Howard S. Wright, and located in Portland’s Pearl District, REI commands a 37,000 sf street level area with full-height windows on three sides.  A 2-story climbing rock built from steel tubes covered in styrofoam and sand blasted concrete graces the store entrance.  An open steel staircase and point-of-sale area with a parralam pergola feature define the space. The project achieved LEED Gold Certification and includes incorporation of green building practices and recycled materials to meet high environmental standards. REI Portland was the first in the nation to receive LEED Gold Certification in the Commerical Interiors category.
