Hillsboro Brookwood & Shute Park Libraries
Howard S. Wright has been selected by the City of Hillsboro as the CM/GC to complete the Brookwood and Shute Park Library projects.
In May 2007, the City of Hillsboro dedicated the new Brookwood Main Library. The facility, however, was not completed at that time, leaving the second floor unfinished. The finished first floor of the Main Library is now beyond capacity for books, other media and user seating, and lacks several basic features including a quiet study area, adequate meeting space, and a well-designed area for teens.
Work at the Brookwood Main Library will consist of a complete buildout of the unfinished second floor, totaling approximately 32,000 sf. In addition, a new feature stair connecting the first floor and second floor is being considered for the purpose of operational efficiency, adequate public access, and after-hour access to meeting rooms.
Work at the Shute Park Library will require the building to vacate for up to a year, and is planned for completion after the Brookwood Main Library in order to maintain city library capacity during the renovation work. Both renovations will be designed to attain LEED gold equivalent status. Brookwood Main Library is scheduled to start in October 2012, and Shute Park Library should follow in Spring of 2013.
